Where "vi" fails, works vim.tinyrc fine.
So when I boot the 6.10 live CD,
first thing I type in gnome-terminal is
alias vi=vim.tinyrc
I think this is the application that assumes some environment and behaves for
that environment.

The strange behaviour of the 'ENTER'-key is reproduceable
under MS-Windows having a puTTY session to an AIX system.
My advice is to close this bug report.
