I have switched off the wireless kill switch (i.e., wifi and bluetooth are
on) because of this bug:

Everything goes fine until the stage "Select and install software" which
fails at 6%. Doing Ctrl+Alt+F4 to see what happens I get the following:

using the Desktop CD, following advice on the Ubuntu Wiki (dual boot)

Well, it turns out I was using CD-RW discs. I have burnt a CD-R disc and
voilĂ , the installation has completed successfully.

I am trying to install Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy on a Dell Latitude D620.
I get the following error either when booting from the Live Desktop CD or
after installing Edgy with the Alternate CD: "Failed to start the X server".

It is strange. I do not have BusID PCI:0:2:1 so I cannot change it.
In /etc/X11/xorg.conf I had:

Thanks for your answer. However, I did not pursue the investigation
further, and I tried to install Ubuntu Edgy 6.10. There were other
problems, but eventually Kubuntu has been installed on this machine and
seems to work well. This makes me think the issue was not hardware-
related.
