I had the same problem while trying to get a, manual configured, wired
network connection during initial trial of 7.04. In the screens from
System Settings/Network Settings I could set and see all the proper
values for IP-address,submask, default gateway and Domain Name Servers

Based on information from bug 78255, I have new installed Kubuntu 7.04
and that worked oke. After logging out I have physical installed the SMC
Wireless PCI Adapter "SMCWPCI-G EU", Partnumber 98-012-084-
