Hi
I have the same problem here too with a DELL Latitude D820 with nvidia graphics
card.
The Synaptics touchpad is working with hardy, but not configurable. I'm using
the "nvidia" driver.
I'm able to add the Synaptics to xorg.conf so that i can disable "click on tab"
in "mouse preferences" but
lf or the version that Ubuntu
released.
This is the first time I've chimed in on a bug report, I usually find my
solutions via the forums, but this issue seems a bit too specific for me
to just wait it out like I usually do until the problem is fixed.
Looking forward to a bit of help.

Have you been reversing the changes when they "have no effect" each time, or
leaving them in?
The UseEvents and disabling VSync are normally used together. If you haven't
done so already, try both at the same time.

Oh you only disabled VSync in Myth? You also need to disable it in the
Nvidia Settings.

Use nvidia-settings

Ah... I bet this is at least part of your issue. You have several
conflicting packages installed. Try this:
sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia-*
Followed by:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-180-modaliases nvidia-180-kernel-source
nvidia-glx-180 nvidia-settings && sudo reboot
Then you will need to s
Prior to the reboot, reinstall all of them. It won't affect their
configuration. I have done this myself many times. So change your second
step to add those three to the install.

Try removing nvidia-96, nvidia-71, nvidia-173, and nvidia-common

Also you could try this:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-common

Did you try to dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-common? nvidia-common 'tries' to
detect obsolete drivers and remove them. A modeline has nothing to do with
modual aliases (modaliases).I have seen in the past where multiple versions
of the nvidia packages being installed will cause oddities or failure of the

At this time Totem is working on my system. I believe that what happens
is that one of the many sound systems (pulse, esd, alsa, oss) gets
stuffed up, and totem stops working because it happens to use that
interface. It seems like Skype is what usually leads to the messed up
sound system. Rhythm
Totem could explain why it has disabled the volume control and suggest
where a user might look to resolve the issue. Whether that is a bug
depends on the project manager and the policies for pre-installed system
components. Given that the current state of the Linux audio system is
