This is confirmed on Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop.
I got a headache from this weird behavior until I watched closely on the
echoed `*'.

After upgrading to linux-image-2.6.24-24-generic from linux-
image-2.6.24-23-generic via Software Update, whenever I play a
multimedia file such as .ogg video or .mp3 music, Ubuntu freezes and has
to be powered off.

Sorry, I also forgot the expected outcome.
The expected outcome is, of course, that opening multimedia files under
linux-image-2.6.24-24-generic should not freeze the machine or cause
other problems with the players.

I was trying to pass "--force-overwrite" to dpkg when using aptitude,

Public bug reported:
fpc-3.0.0 installs the following:
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/fpc-3.0.0/listings.sty
That shadows the one installed by texlive-latex-recommended at:
/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/tex/latex/listings/listings.sty
Specifically, "kpsewhich listings.sty" returns that of fpc-3.0.0.
This bug still exists in Ubuntu 16.04! Can't it be fixed?

Binary package hint: apt-file
I want to list the content of a not installed package whose name is very
terse, for example, "bc". However, doing "apt-file list bc" returns the
contents of all packages having "bc" in their names like "libc". AFAIK,
there is no way to tell apt-f
--fixed-string | -F does not work for "bc" although it works for "ltsp-
client". I think it is because "bc" is not separated with a "-" in
"libc" while "ltsp-client" is separated with a "-" in "ltsp-client-
core".
-x does the trick :-)
Thank you.
