mine was like this. that i did dist-upgrade to 8.04 alfa release. and after that compiz.real was taking ~95% of processor resources... and pretty frequently it just crashed (usually when i started x, then in the begging of the session [within 1st minute]). anyway. it didn't always crash, but anyway
