Adding to my previous note: Once the change has been made, the next time Firefox is started it reports that it is not the default browser and asks if it should be made so. Selecting "Yes" sets the preferred browser config to "Custom: /usr/bin/firefox "%s" thus undoing the fix for this bug. --
