ATIs own Wiki has a few words on this in regards to 7.12:
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Gutsy_Installation_Guide#Suspend.2FHibernation_work_with_7.12
Apparently, it works since 7.12 now for all but a few (including my own,
grumble) chipsets.
quote:
Suspend/Hibernation work with 7.12
Also happens in the standard i386 build. Renders the whole package
useless. Tried to recompile it, or swap it out with the gutsy build, but
it does not make any difference in behaviour, suggesting the networking
hiccup comes form somewhere else.

Just for clarification, it is the patch 011_fedora_pci_scan_fixes.patch
that prevents X from finding all devices. Have tried to remove
011_fedora_pci_scan_fixes.patch from xserver-xorg-core 1.1.1-0ubuntu9
and recompiled it, scanpci then found all my devices.

Public bug reported:
For the Ubuntu CDs/DVDs to be able to boot on machines like the Pegasos
which are chrp machines but can't run yaboot it is necessary to have
compressed kernel with the initrd in the same file. Such a file can for
example be generated with mkvmlinuz from a vmlinux and initrd.gz
Unfortunately no firmware for Pegasos with yaboot support is possible to
download from anywhere. And I don't expect any new version of the
firmware to be released soon.
Would be really good if you could include the kernel on the DVD. Please
let me know as soon as the DVD builds. If I can be of any
I have reported a similar bug earlier and talked to Colin Watson about
it, but he told me there is not enough space on the CD to include the
vmlinuz-chrp.initrd kernel. I would really love to see a kernel that can
boot on the Pegasos on the CDs but it seems like a hard task to convince
them ;)

Yes, it is not hard to generate a kernel for the CD. I will probably do
that and release somewhere later when Edgy is released. But it is
easiest for new users to use the DVD.
Watson or someone else in the CD Image team, can you remove the Pegasos
menu file from the CDs to avoid confusion since we
Can't we go back to using /proc instead of /sys until the sysfs stuff
handles pci domains correctly? The good things
011_fedora_pci_scan_fixes.patch adds will still be left.
I attach a simple patch to force proc instead of sysfs.
On my computer all devices are found in proc even if they are on

Well, selecting the "generic" kernel when booting up makes it possible
to load the "snd-hda-intel" module - and the music plays again!
