Another workaround that just worked for me: add blacklist evdev to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist then run /sbin/update-modules as root, and reboot. The behavior of the keyboard and mouse is thereafter reverted to what it was under Hardy Heron, no xorg.conf changes or setxkbmap voodoo needed. -- Up
