that's really strange...
a google search for "undefined symbol: poppler_page_get_thumbnail_pixbuf"
returns nothing
and evince works fine for me on Jaunty...
the only other thing that comes to mind is user account settings: try
removing everything under ~/.gnome2/evince, and then try opening evinc

the nohz=off solution is very strange, since (afaik) it has a normal intel dual
core processor...
