I forgot to add that I'm in Canada, so I've chosen Canada as the
location, and then the locale was English (Canada).

I finally got it working using this method from the Ubuntu Forums :
To install alsa driver (sound):
1- install deps of alsa (automake, autotools, autoconf ans some other (please
provide the list if you do this, i dont remermber it)
cd /usr/src/modules/
rsync -avz --delete rsync://alsa.alsa-projec
There are some solutions, as using this method (
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=3130398&postcount=176 ), but it
requires to patch the drivers. The best solution is to wait for a new
version of the drivers by nvidia, and hope it will fix the problem.

I confirm that it worked for me with the piix module.
Out-of-the-box, the DVD drive doesn't work under my Kubuntu.

I confirm the bug too. I performed an up-to-date from Edgy to Feisty and
now with OpenOffice 2.2 I've got the bug everytime I play a PowerPoint
presentation in fullscreen and then close OpenOffice after watching the
presentation.
I tried opening it in a terminal, here is the messages I got:

I had the same problem. I have been using KDE with GDM as login screen
since now, and I had this bug. I tried replacing gdm with kdm and it
corrected the bug so I confirm that the bug comes with the use of GDM as
the login screen.
I precise that I had not this problem under Edgy.
