No, there is definitely no instance running (checked with ps). Other
GNOME apps also recognize the daemon is not running and warn

with that error in ld-2.9
The fix seems to have it resolved (on Jaunty)for me, too. I would
appreciate to have it enabled by default.

After having more trouble with the kernel which prevented me from
starting, the error disappeared after a system repair. I repaired the
installation via the chroot option from the alternate CD and ran a
reinstall, followed by dist-upgrade from there. This fixed it, so I

Ok, I retested with different options and I can constantly reproduce it
by including a drop shadow. With other options it only occurs randomly.
