Thanks for your report. This seems to be bug 48732, and occurs due to
strange model names on certain disks. This is fixed in dapper-updates,
so you can work around it by upgrading all packages with 'ubiquity' in
their names on the running live CD before starting the installer.

Well, for security issues that are remotely exploitable I'd say yes. If

I have the same problem -- I'm not sure if it's anything to do with it
but when Gnome is loading the fourth icon which used to appear on the
start-up splash screen no longer does. It was the one with a box, a CD
and something else (only appeared very quickly). Could something I've
installed on top
