Just to (re?)state the obvious:
A standard Linux kernel flushes to disk every 5 seconds. I don't know
what anyone expects their disk to do to "save power" between those
flushes, but it doesn't. When the drive manufacturer sets default
settings it is under the assumption the OS is not going to forc

the 5 seconds of the forced flush. This is purely coincidental and
nothing to do with "broken" disks.

Oh I forgot, it's just OpenOffice.org which is freezing. Killing just
the frozen window (using Gnome's "Force a missbehaving application to
quit" panel icon) makes the window disappear but leaves a frozen process
which can easily killed with "kill -9".

automatically installed although its package description clearly states
it is meant for firewall usage only. So stoping ipmasq did fix the
problem for me temporarily.
$ cd /etc/init.d
$ sudo ./ipmasq stop
I think it's safe to remove the ipmasq package at all.

Here is what fixed it for me: Deleting the original (FAT32) Partition on
the USB pen drive. The Wizard will then allow you to "Format" the stick.

packages in intrepid. Same behavior for me as for other reporters: When
I boot up on AC power -> no problems.
When I go to battery, the issue appears and will STAY even when I
reconnect AC power. I get around 10 load/unload cycles p

When trying to configure any previously added datasource, the ODBCConfig
program fails with the following text in the console:
$ ODBCConfig
ODBCConfig: libltdl/ltdl.c:1178: try_dlopen: Assertion `filename && *filename'
failed.

How to
After having more trouble with the kernel which prevented me from
starting, the error disappeared after a system repair. I repaired the
installation via the chroot option from the alternate CD and ran a
reinstall, followed by dist-upgrade from there. This fixed it, so I
suppose there was something

I can still reproduce it with the procedure and file above. Please note
this only appears when composing the message per command-line script.
When composing the mail via the Thunderbird UI, everything is working

I am not been able to use my AVM Fritz!Card PCI v2.0 on Intrepid Ibex.
I installed capiutils, and uncommented the 'fcpci' line in
/etc/isdn/capi.conf.
After restart i got this error on capiinit.
sudo capiinit
FATAL: Module fcpci not found.

I had to re-purpose that machine for a different project and presently its
not running Ubuntu. I will have Ubuntu reinstalled at the end of this
project but that will probably be too late to get you the information you
need.
