I have a similar problem. I always keep all my data on a separate
partition, mounted to say /mnt/sdaN. I have a directory there for each
user and the user can build whatever subdirectories from there he wants,
each with links to his home, eg
ln -s /mnt/sda6/fred/workStuff /home/fred
ln -s /mnt/sda
Here is my xorg.conf. It shows the sis driver and all its possible
options. Perhaps one of them would fix the problem. However, as also
shown, I switched out the sis driver and switched in the vesa driver, to
make the laptop's graphics work properly.

Well that's understandable.
I guess it would be an enhancement request that root ought to be able to

simply setting it to 'complain mode', or 'off mode' or whatever, or
perhaps even removing the package is an option. Not that I l

Further to my previous message, here is the output of the 'dpkg

"This is an AppArmor configuration issue". I agree - as a workaround.
However this seems to recognise that AppArmor does not respect symbolic

For the past 20 years I could treat symbolic links pretty much as if
they were real files/directories, in that once defined, their existence

I have the same problem with an Asus notebook.
My fix was:
1. changed /etc/usplash.conf to 1024x768, which fixed the shutdown splash.
2. removed vga=771 from /boot/grub/menu.lst, which allowed the entry in
/etc/usplash.conf to be used at bootup.

Try running "sudo gthumb". If it imports photos (like it does for me),
change ownership of the jpg files and copy them to your normal user file
