Is there any thing I can do to help debug this problem ? (like testing kernels,
testing patches, ...)
I'm not a kernel programmer, but I do programming for a living (mostly c++), so
I should be able to do basic things if necessary.

Binary package hint: network-manager
I have 2 pcs under linux (k)ubuntu that were running fine under intrepid.
After upgrade to jaunty both wifi stopped working.
My first workstation uses the ath5k with a manual configuration (networkmanager
should not be used at all).

Binary package hint: apt
Well, don't really know which package it is.
I guess the graphical upgrade app to upgrade from intrepid to jaunty ultimately
invokes either apt or even dselect.
The fact is, I had kde-i18n-fr installed. It was desinstalled after the upgrade.

Upgraded today from intrepid (graphics/compositing working fine under kwin) to
jaunty.
Experienced the same kind of problem : sluggish. Kde even turned off the
compositing itself after a few minutes.
Tried the old driver using this method :

Read elsewhere it could be a kwallet issue and/or a kde plasma applet issue.
I do not have the plasma applet running. I have knetworkmanager running.
I tried the applet. It seems to be handling better the kwallet (e.g. :
asking for permission to access it), and it even seems like scanning and

Hello, I've just updated from intrepid where wifi was working great to
jaunty, and I experience exactly the same problem : slowness, then
deconnection, with "unsupported jumbo" error messages.
I tried to install linux-backports-modules-jaunty, it did not fix my
problem.

Hello, after having upgraded from intrepid (ath_hal + ath_pci) to jaunty
(ath5k), I experience exactly the same issue.
When I do a /etc/init.d/networking restart I have more or less 1min to use the
connection at full speed, and then it just disconnect or becomes painfully slow

Yes, I've seen that too, which I find very odd : my applications were in french
before the upgrade.
After the upgrade they were in english.
That's why I though i18n-fr was desinstalled, and indeed it was not installed.
Any idea ?

appport wants "change anything" privileges.
No way I'm going to give that kind of privileges to a program.
As for this bug, I've stopped using NetworkManager and now use the kde4
plasma network manager which work even better than the old
knetworkmanager and is more user friendly.

Same problem here on my VAIO laptop.
Kubuntu lucid, kernel 2.6.32-24-generic, module iwl3945.
Except I was getting deauthenticated with reason=15
Also removed network-manager, and it seems to have fixed my problem.
Everything was working fine with previous version (karmic ?).
