I can reproduce it when booting from a Hardy live CD, too (which is not
surprising).
/etc/X11/xorg.conf is the same (except few differences in the InputDevice
sections). The (attached) Xorg.0.log is quite the same, too.

In Karmic, LyX cannot find included pdf file (pdfpages)

What are the steps to reproduce this bug? I have tried to reproduce it
on Ubuntu 9.10 (x86, 32 bit) with these steps:
1) Create a new directory
2) cd into the new directory
3) Enter these commands
$ touch blah.scd
$ ls
blah.scd
4) Type "unzip" (without quotes), followed by a space and then press T
Here is a screenshot showing the portion of the webpage that, when
copied and pasted to OO.o, triggers the crash.
The crash is reproducible when copying data both from Chromium and from
Firefox.

Looking at Xorg.0.log, it seems that the
EDID_QUIRK_DETAILED_USE_MAXIMUM_SIZE quirk ('Detailed timing descriptors
have bogus size values, so just take the maximum size and use that.')
applies.
That quirk is already implemented in drm_edid.c both in the linus tree
and in the ubuntu tree, and in bot
Booting from a Jaunty LiveCD, I have looked at Xorg.0.log. It uses a
quirk I have not found in xf86EdidModes.c:
(II) intel(0): EDID vendor "LPL", prod id 0

The problem is that gnome-screensaver's DBus API has changed. The
current DBus API is here:

MPlayer should be updated to use the new API.

I am getting the same issue. Using Ubuntu 9.10 and pidgin
2.6.5-0ubuntu1~pidgin1.9.10 from ppa:pidgin-developers/ppa.
The problem lies withing gstreamer/pulseaudio, not within pidgin.

After further testing, it looks like a strange or subtly corrupted PDF
file. Karmic's ghostscript has trouble with it, too:
