So, is there any official decision made about which system Ubuntu should
adhere to? The X11 compose sequences, or the Gnome/GtkComposeTable. Or
is GTK just being followed, because Ubuntu uses Gnome per default...
Choosing GtkComposeTable obviously confuses some users. It also seems
less complete,
Using GtkComposeTable in GTK applications confuses some users, because
compose sequences then work differently depending on the application's
GUI framework. A kind of low-level distinction of applications, that I
believe the general user not should need to make. Shouldn't it work the
same way every
This is related to bug #74360, please see this for more information.
In short, some compose sequences are not available in the table used
per default by GTK applications, but may be available in the table
used by X11 (as is the case with <,> ), which is
inherited by non-GTK apps. To make it even

A quick fix for that seems to be to put the following into ~/.gnomerc:
export GTK_IM_MODULE="xim"
GTK will then use the X11 compose sequences, which has <,> and
<">, that you want.

Something similar just happened to me. I first mistyped the password,
and then I couldn't get it to log in, until I disabled and re-enabled the
plugin, and restarted rhythmbox.

I have the same crash, whenever I try to open the properties window
on any (it seems) file, directory, etc.
System is Karmic, recently upgraded from Jaunty. Python is
2.6.4-0ubuntu2.
Bringing up properties window in a sudo:ed Nautilus does indeed work.
As well, if I create a new user and log in,
I had the same problem here, on a computer similar (identical?) to
original poster's; Amilo A3667G with Turion 64 and Radeon X700, though
running a x86 kernel (yes). It was solved with kernel nomodeset and
radeon.modeset=0.
Any link to this issue upstreams?

The crashes earlier on were hard and slightly traumatizing, but I have
to say that with pci=nomsi, KMS seems to work on this hardware. Smooth
glitch-less switching between vt/gdm/X for a whole day, no (instant)
crashes like before. (That's still x86 on Turion64/RadeonX700)

lspci -v coming up. Btw, what do you look for in that output? Also, on a
running system, is there a file in /proc where I can see which flags,
like pci=nomsi, that are in effect? (or, nomsi specifically).

Bugs,
I have a system where a user has Lithuanian, Russian, and USA layouts. On a
reboot, an additional Ltu2 (2 in subscript) appears. When I remove it, it comes
back on the next reboot. I did not investigate much more than actually finding
this bug, which kind of seems related.
No functional problem
Sorry, I currently don't have access to that system. My quick fix was to wipe
out
the .nautilus directory, if I remember correctly. But I never had installed any
extensions...

Same here. Trying to install (or just run) lubuntu-10.10.iso in qemu

I just tried the same setup with VirtualBox, and it worked without this
