I've tried to connect my Globetrotter Icon 7.2 UMTS Modem
(usb_modeswitch active) with Orange Switzerland using the Gnome Network
Manager. The predefined value for APN (defined as «click») is wrong
imho, if you try to connect with this value the ppd is unable to
connect.

I've the same problem, 2nd Screen a simply mousedown crashes the whole
X-Server. I could not find a soultion untill now.
My configuration:
Ubuntu 8.04 w/ Compiz fusion
