I can confirm that hanichl's suggestion works.
To make it easier for others to complete the steps (since it's kind of
hard when you can read the text), the theme to select is the second most
topmost in the theme-list.
I attached a screenshot to better show the action needed.

So basically, this is: Moving files from an encrypted home directory is
slower than from a non-encrypted home directory because of using
copy/delete operations instead of move.

As Unity's performance tends to severely diminish over time (sometimes a
few hours, sometimes a day or two, in my experience), it is actually
necessary to restart Unity, so this bug makes Unity close to unusable

It also happens on my system for files that are not in a Shotwell
library (I don't use Shotwell and some files are text so shouldn't end
up in Shotwell anyway).
To me, it seems the recently-used.xbel file is read, but not filtered. I've
created a small Python script to filter the recently-used.xb

My sound card supports surround and I've noticed that if I switch the
output to that and back to stereo, the problem disappears for a while
(making me think it's a buffer issue). It also works with switching to

As the author of VIneyard, I can confirm that one of the extensions installed
caused this behaviour.
I'm of course sorry for the trouble and would like to point out that this is
already fixed and that the next version won't have this issue.
For now a simple: sudo rm
/usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-
I seem to remember shipping a default theme has been discussed before
but there seem to be trouble with the licensing since it's apparently
not possible to create a theme using only open source tools (can anyone
find this discussion?).
Maybe we could ship with _links_ to a few common themes?
