i get the same errors as makitwork, but a few similar ones. only
difference is "Request 70", and "Request 68" it's not crashing for me,
but it's still not working right in 16 or 24 color depth. i've got an
strace for each mode. attached 16 first.
it doesn't read my .Xdefaults either apparently

attached 24 bit log, hope it helps. for now i'll just use aterm built
from src
