I've been suffering the same problem since upgrade to Ibex from Hardy. I
managed to fix it by temporarily moving my ~/.evolution folder.
1) mv ~/.evolution ~/.evolution.bak
2) Started evolution with no problems with fresh settings
3) rm -rf ~/.evolution
4) mv ~/.evolution.bak ~/.evolution

Can not read Chinese
Still broken in Jaunty. The behavior in Dell Latitude E6400 is a bit
different though. It reads SDHC 16GB just fine (a Transcend card) when
it's formatted with FAT32. I copied and used about 2.4 GB of files and
ran into no issue. However when I tried to mkfs.ext2 on it, the
familiar I/O errors
