FYI: as per the error message, I read the /usr/share/doc/libxml-sax-
perl/README.Debian.gz file, which included code to uninstall the locally
installed XML::SAX module. After this uninstallation. upgrading the
package worked seamlessly.

In the Sounds tab of the Preferences window, I have set "Enable sounds"
to "Only when available". However, when I am Away or Busy I still get
sound notifications.

/MM/DD directories automatically. Now they are copied into the
Import folder without the date subdirectories.

Correct.
My /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/{http,https} keys were set to
"/usr/lib/firefox-3.0/firefox", which no longer exists. I changed their
values to "/usr/bin/firefox", and the issue was resolved.

"Connect to server" button, but its label changes to "Set the default
browser and try again".
The default browser is ALREADY set though; running "sudo update-alternatives
