The numpad behavior is consistant with most other PC keyboards. I
believe this is the desired functionality. The "clear" button is in the
place of most keyboard's numlock keys.
Your other issue should likely go to a different location unless this
test reversed previous functionality.

focused on the fact that having numlock on would cause part of the
qwerty portion of the keyboard to change to a number pad (like on a

No it is still not working. I don't know why you would remove something
useful from the repos when you do not know if the replacement for it

being mistakenly identified as the built-in keyboards on MacBook Pros
(which have a psuedo-numberpad on the main keys when numlock is turned
on). As far as I know this has been fixed in Intrepid. Can you test it

I can confirm the same behavior on a Shuttle X SN41g2 system with an AMD
XP2400+ processor, and the Nvidia chipset with an onboard MX420 - I
tried nvidia-glx and nvidia-glx-legacy and eventually got so frustrated
that I've switched to using the 'nv' driver.
System was running various NVidia driver

This is very common if you compile anything against the kernel yourself.
The updated AppleSMC package in the mactel-support repo is provided so
that you have a fixed before it may be available in the standard Ubuntu
repos. The changes made were submitted upstream and then included in the
Linux kern
