After installing the recent KDE 4.2 packages from intrepid-backports, I
am no longer able to play fullscreen video for a significant period of
time without X crashing at random. Both VLC and mplayer cause this
problem. There is very little information in any of the logs about

I fixed that bug by manually installing the missing firmware file.
Apparently, that was just a fluke on my system or something transient in
Intrepid beta. I am closing the bug report.

Intrepid boot/networking problems with Thinkpad X6
On my Thinkpad T500 with an external Logitech wave keyboard, hitting the
mute button merely toggles a pretty red x on the screen without
affecting the actual sound. Similarly, selecting mute in the volume
control applet has no effect. The mute button on the laptop works as it
should.

I am going to close this. Almost all the reported problems have gone
away. The remaining problem is that the mute button on my external
keyboard toggles a pretty red x but has no actual effect on sound,
exactly as described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303921.

I can think of a few use-cases where the new implementation may/will
cause problems as it's currently laid out:

I can’t use a blank xorg.conf in any practical manner because:
1. Bugs in the intel driver prevent my VGA monitor from having its DDC
information read properly
2. Bugs in the intel driver cause a third monitor device to appear that
commingles with the VGA device

I use subpixel smoothing in Jaunty Alpha 4, and all is well with all
programs except OpenOffice 3.
In OpenOffice3, I have aliasing enabled, and the characters have nasty
yellow shadows around them.
Turning off aliasing in OO "solves" the problem, but then the characters
look
rd and verify that I am the proper owner of the card.
