Sadly, it seems that a simple rebuild is not enough to resolve this
issue. :-( What is interesting of course is that there was no linking
time error. What is even more interesting is that the
/usr/lib/sssd/libsss_krb5.so does not have any krb5 lib dependencies:

Why is this still a problem on Lucid? Lucid is now in beta and this bug
is 2.5 months old. The ACK of the fix is (almost) 2 months old even!!!
This is not even a difficult problem to solve. You drop the above patch
into the diff and rebuild. I just did and it fixes the problem.

So, I now have a case where this race prevents a successful boot

Reopening this. I am seeing this problem, very consistently on a
Karmic->Lucid upgrade I did today. I will include the previously

Teinit 2 doesn't help. That just runs the scripts in /etc/rc2.d but the

I think the suggested fix in comment #8 is absolutely evil. The
intentions are well-placed but the results of using that work-around are
evil and I believe lead to the sort of issues reported in bug #543506.
I still have to go to a few more machines and "undo" that change to be
completely sure. I
I should add, that even with the suggested patch from comment #8 in
place, it didn't stop rpc.statd from being started before /var was
mounted, so it was not even helping in that manner.

screensaver has kicked in, and also put my monitors (CRT on :0.1 and LCD

I'm seeing this also, after having done an "apt-get dist-upgrade"
upgrade from jaunty to karmic.
Obviously I don't have a "dist-upgrade" log, so let's try approaching
this from a more trouble-shooting oriented point of view.

The new libnotify behavior in Karmic is just not working for me. The
prompts are too far out of my primary focus and too dark (in color, not
what they are saying :-).
I can't seem to find any way to configure where the bubble's pop up nor
a way to change their color.

When I try to use xsane as the logged in user, I can select my scanner
but when I try to scan I get a I/O Error. If I simply use sudo to run
xsane it works perfectly.
If I use sudo to change the permissions of /proc/bus/usb/002/002 to 666
it works as a regular user.
