seems to have stopped working recently. Has the Xsession file
/etc/gdm/Xsession recently stopped processing this file, or has a file
been removed from /etc/X11/Xsession.d that source
This just happened again during upgrade. Perhaps it was upgrading to
the fixed release noted above that it happened and this is the last time
it should happen.

Hrm. With more experimentation, I think this might have been related to
simply trying to run it without the parent window (--parent-window-id)
being valid or something.

It is in fact an artifact of apport trying to POST to an https:// url.
Squid3 does not support https:// posts. I tend to think most proxies
don't as the right way to interact with an SSL website via a proxy is to
use the CONNECT method.

All of this discussion about versions being shown in the changelog entry
assumes a changelog entry. Ubuntu's repository is not the only
repository out there and most (all?) other repositories don't maintain
changelogs, so the *ONLY* way to know what version you are updating
from, to was the ones d

Totally no-go. I just upgraded to the synaptic that showed as fixing
this bug in the changelog and still the same old, closing-the-details-
window-when-the-installations-are-done business as usual.
Can we call a mulligan on this one and try again?

along the path from update-manager to synaptic, several proxy
controlling environment variables are getting dropped. The process
stack looks like:

OK. I experimented a bit. First googled for "startup_list_enable()"
and found it was in gnome-session, so installed gnome-session-dbgsym (I
guess installing that one should have been obvious without even using
google). Which got me this stacktrace:
