I believe this is due to incomplete or not at all set up Xorg conf which for some reason is not done for a long time on certain Radeon systems, so those are without DRI and all the bells and whistles. Did you try what I mentioned above? sudo service lightdm stop sudo Xorg -configure sudo mv xorg
