This also affected me. Downgrading grub using the instructions from
comment #54/#55 fixed the issue, so this definitely seems to be a grub
issue, and is still a problem as of version 2.04-1ubuntu26.4.

applet-specific, it's happening to my "show desktop" applet now too.
