Given the delay i installed again, i forget now how i overcame the
issue, and am happily running 8.04. As far as i can see this is

Attached file as requested by the system I had been working on two
other bugs (see separate report(s)) one relating to autopano and the
second one on missing enblend ... so decided to use the ptstitcher
option and the program immediately crashed.

Did an update today and while it gave similar messages, instead of
chosing the distibution upgrade option i chose the proceed anyway path
and the issue seems to have gone for the moment

I did an ugrade via the pathof inserting an aloternate i386 cd for hardy
and followed the automated process ... everything seememd to go fine
until it hit th eproblem with dependancy issues mentioning ubuntu
minimal and console-config. It abrubtly terminated the install in an

My apologies for overlooking this question.
No I do not use either ... compiz is installed but not operative and not
activateable
as I use an ATI graphics card (Radeon 9500 Pro) and I have fglrx installed.

In further empirical testing I find that the very first initiation of
firefox after a re-boot does NOT stick but that subsequent new
inititaions (from the gnome menu and from File>NewWindow) do stick. I
discovered this "feature" after reinstalling firefox-gnome-support.

Having now reinstalled ff itself no further improvement was made ie
second and subsequent instances of ff "stick" as previously described.
I suppose too its no surprise that it does not require a complete reboot
to reset it so that the first ff instance is unstuck. A simple ctl alt
backspace achi
New Discovery
One thing that has changed this morning is that now, when i close all
open instances of ff, the first new instance is unstuck whereas
subsequent ones, while there is an existing ff window open, do stick.
Previously to achieve this a reboot or alt ctl backspace was required.

i noticed today thatubuntu desktop was not installed ... i installed it
and hey presto it no longer sticks. If interested i can provide list of
which packages were re-instated. Prob bug close?

I was about to post the screen shots as requested but decided to do
todays updates first . lo and behold this problem seems to have been
fixed now though it was still there immediately before the updates.

Ok i was wrong, it is still sticking . attached is the requested
screen-shot i have compiz installed (a default) but never used, in
fact when i click on "Desktop Effects" i receive an error message "The
composite extension is not available" though surprisingly it would seem
that is in erro
This is peculiar it has stopped sticking again . the worst of
all possible situations something that comes and goes
