Patched versions of libpciaccess and xserver-xorg-video-mga are now available
in my PPA. And yes - after installing them xserver starts up fine with the
old-style xinerama based xorg.conf. I could not see any disadvangates during a

This has happened before, but a reboot has fixed the problem
I've experienced this on Ubuntu Netboox Remix 9.04.
After installing the openbox packages, selecting the Openbox/GNOME
session used Metacity instead of Openbox as the window manager.
I removed the --choose-session argument, and it fixed the issue until I
turned Compiz on and back off from the Sys
Same problem with a HP Brio which has a Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G200
AGP rev 3. Xubuntu 9.04 graphical installation fails. Used the alternate
CD to install a base system, then apt-get gdm and xinit, but always goes
into failsafe vesa mode after screen flashes a few times.

The error I get when Xorg enters failsafe mode is:

Exactly same thing happened to me. I upgraded from Intrepid to Jaunty
and mt352 stopped working. Shows similar error messages in my dmesg
already during bootup (probably when mythbackend starts).
