Just registered to chime in on this as well, as I couldn't find anything
similar on the forums.
I'm currently experiencing the same problem with my laptop. I'll leave
it sitting around for a few days, and finally notice that network-
manager has jumped to over 1 GB in VmSize and about 500-700 in V

The Text Filter plugin for Kate was previously present in Kubuntu 14.10
(and earlier), but isn't there in 15.10.
This was reported in KDE and patched in July:
