I'm not really sure what caused this error as I don't recall any updates
to gnome-settings-daemon or gnome packages being done recently. After
restarting I've found that gnome-settings-daemon segfaults almost
immediately after loading. In the terminal doing

I would be happy with a global key that 'locks' the global menu into
place (or equivalently locks focus) allowing me to reach the menu.
Something like Alt or the like.
