I experience the same thing on a Thinkpad T41 with a ATI Radeon 7500 M7.
As soon as I enable MergedFB and attach a second display I experience
occasional freezes. No need to invoke any xrand tool.

Same story here. After an update xorg tells me that neither nvidia nor
nv can find any devices. After backgrading just xserver-xorg-core xorg
finds my graphics board again. Here is the output of 'lspci' on my
machine:

Binary package hint: icecc
icecc needs gcc and g++ installed on a system even when you are just
compiling using gcc. If g++ is missing it will fail silently leaving you
with no clue as to what is wrong. The reason for the dependency is that

Great news! Can I somehow try whether this works for me (preferably on

Here is the gdb.txt file. Please note that at the time when I hit CTRL-C
rhythmbox doesn't freeze. The UI is still responsive, but I cannot play
any radio stations anymore. (Not sure about mp3's, don't have any
installed).

And here is the log produced with '-d'. FWIW, after trying to play this
mms radio station, I can also no longer quit rhythmbox. When I click on
the close icon (x) on the window title bar after a few seconds a dialog
pops up asking me whether I would like to forcefully quit rhythmbox. It
