I have the same problem since upgrading to Karmic. In Jaunty it looked
nice, but in Karmic no bars and the number it shows i figured is the
total number of half hours instead of whole hours. (e.g. it shows 11.2
instead of 5.6).

Same here - fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 - and the exact behavior Adam
describes above (Encryption with proprietary Nvidia driver). 'quiet
nosplash' works.

I have the same problems, using the Swedish update servers. I booted my
computer and leaved it for lunch, and when I came back the CPU was
running at 100% (http by apt). I kept it running for a while, and then I
starting investigating this issue. I checked my
/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/ and noticed

I have this problem in Ubuntu 11.10 and I have had it since Ubuntu 10.04 at
least. dmesg tells me nothing when ejecting and nothing when I put in another
disc. It just shows the old contents until I do a software eject (i.e. by
clicking the eject button in nautilus).

I also have this problem, most notably with Firefox. I had it in 11.04
too, and it is still here in a vanilla 11.10 install. I read somewhere
that it could be solved by opening nautilus and drag an icon over unity,
which works, but is fairly unintuitive. :) Would be happy if this
problem got solved
I have this problem on Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty). Closing and re-opening
sound-juicer after changing CD "solves" the problem.
