I was one of the earlier reporters of this bug (on 2008-08-25), but the
problem has completely disappeared for me in the meantime. I didn't do
anything special, just kept up with the usual updates (still on Hardy,
32 bit). Firefox hasn't lost its window decoration in quite a while.

It is a seagate drive which can limit the link speed itself to 1.5 Gbps by
setting a jumper.

Indeed the problem persists. Now even Galeon will not play a midi.
Firefox in Dapper Drake was tamed by the creation of a little wrapper
script, an alteration in about:config to not hide downloads without an
extension and a change to the specified action when faced by a midi
file. It worked.

I got this bug on normal Ubuntu 8.10 desktop with a fresh installation
on an old machine (pentium 4).
I chrooted into it via livecd and upgraded the system with dist-upgrade.
But the problem is still the same.
The setup is this:
2x scsi drives (1 used for Ubuntu Linux other is empty)
1x ide cdrom
In fact it's a bug in your USB device (and in many many other too)
Your USB device does return the wrong size information (1 too large)

Yes, John, if I set the preferences in Firefox to "open midi with
timidity", the midi file is played.
The problem is that playing a midi file in Firefox does not
automatically open the timidity GUI and can therefore not be turned off.

I have the same issue, but its not related to storage at all, my usb
wireless keyboard reciever and IR Remote Reciever both stop working
after rebooting, making the task of turning off my media center
completely not worth it. this is right up there among the most annoying
bugs I've ever been strick

This issue doesn't occur with BIOS version 1006, so we can close this
bug. It maybe posted on Wiki (or someplace else) to prevent other to
open bugs like this again.
