I've encountered this repeatedly.
In the first installation -- on updating via Software Updater, this
crashed on upgrading the shim-signed package.
On suggestions from here:
I upgrade the system via CLI, i.e. dist-upgrade. This seemed to work,
however when I now try to swap

Thanks -- I was presented with the option to disable the SB during the
install. But that didn't persist after reboot, I realised that the once I
disabled the UEFI-Windows Secure boot in the BIOS the problems went away.

I am unconvinced by the workarounds suggested for this bug. I have
recreated this in all situations: it is related to nvidia card memory
size. Whatever workaround you try I suspect if you keep opening new
windows you will get the bug eventually (I do). Its easier to recreate

As, still, no one seems to be doing anything about this (including me -
it is beyond my expertise), is there anyone who can reliably find a way
to bypass it. This sort of problem has been a regular show with
Compiz+Nvidia, and seems to rear its head in a number of guises. There

windows - often as few as 5 in a high resolution setting) and
disasterous (it prevents any reasonable use of the OS). It appears to
have been an on-off problem with Compiz with nvidia for years and years.

This is a visible side effect of miss-configured NAT. Even with the code
patched to allow requests through, the logging capability is compromised and
will show the IP of the NAT box instead of the client.

My PPA now contains beta squid3 packages with IPv6 support and other new
3.1 feature enabled. Some features require a 2.6.28+ kernel so only
Jaunty and later are provided.
There are still bugs to be worked out of 3.1, but they seem to work for
me so far.

Probably the restart did it. I just hit this exact bug.
For me the upgrade restart appeared to close and re-show the browser properly.
But some component had left a hidden or invisible window open preventing a
proper restart. The browser window that "restarted" was the old process. A
manual cycl
I also have the same bug, with an nvidia geforce4 go 420 and nvidia
proprietary drivers.
The password box does not appear and I have to blindly type the password
to unlock the screen.
Disabling twinview is not an option because it's a notebook I use
frequently for presentations.

If I understood correctly... cdda uses the same PCM encoding as WAV, so
the conversion is just a matter of dropping the headers (if the wav is
44.1KHz, Stereo). If I'm right, I don't see a reason not to do this in
"realtime", instead of using 600MB on disk.

In the file chooser, changing the location using the location/address bar does

I'm stuck with karmic for now unfortunately. I have kept up with the karmic
updates hoping this would disappear at some point.
But yes it's still occuring several times a day (with the latest karmic
kernel). Will try the mainline.

Unfortunately I have had to uninstall Ubuntu and revert to Windows on
my laptop. It is a huge
disappointment to me and not really down to this issue at all, it is
much more to do with
Vmware and mouse support along with some basic X server instability. I
look forward to trying

Some background:
I've had wireless issues with this card from Feisty, Gutsy, and Intrepid due
to the default NetworkManager not being able to use the card drivers. This was
resolved in Jaunty by replacing NetworkManager with wicd and everything worked
perfectly for months.
