Can this please be re-opened? Daniel van Vugt marked it as "won't fix"
in comment #14 due to Ubuntu 17.10 being end of life, but numerous
people are still encountering the problem with more recent versions. I'm
encountering it on Ubuntu 19.10 and a new Sony WH-1000XM3.

For those with Sony headphones, and who are affected by this annoying
bug, the attached "headphones" Perl script is a partial workaround.
You'll need to edit it for the bluetooth address of your headphones. Run
it after switching your headphones on and they connect, and it sets
A2DP.

then it seems to be reliable. What I did was:
1. Stopped Thunderbird, which had been running in safe mode.
2. sudo apt remove thunderbird-locale*
3. sudo apt install thunderbird-locale-en-gb

If I close the lid of my laptop, then open it again, I find it asking
for a password even though "lock: False" is set in ~/.xscreensaver
(attached). The password window says "XScreenSaver 5.15".
$ lsb_release -rd

$ apt-cache
It's fixed for me with the latest updates as of today.

I guess this is the key line in the log file:
xscreensaver: 21:17:14: LOCK ClientMessage received; activating and
locking.
Presumably something, such as ACPI, is asking xscreensaver to lock
rather than activate?

Certainly; please see attached. What I did was:
1. Ran "killall xscreensaver" to kill the running xscreensaver.
2. Ran "xscreensaver -verbose -log output_log_name". The splash screen came up.
3. Waited a few seconds.
4. Closed the laptop lid.
5. Waited a few seconds.
6. Opened the lid. The passwor
