I assume this is the same core problem: if an sshfs mount's remote
machine becomes unavailable, the system monitor applet will freeze and
remain in uninterruptible sleep forever.

I've had the same problem with sshfs, referring to the remote machine by
its winbind name. If I try to browse the mount while the machine is off
the network, nautilus freezes, and any attempts to restart it give me
the Unique-DBus-WARNING. I tried using Thunar instead, and it too froze
as soon as
