Ok the symptoms have changed. It doesn't make it actually crash anymore so I
cant get a backtrace.

I mean crossfade. Go to Preferences in the Edit menu and then go to the
Playback tab. Tick the "Enable crossfading effects" checkbox, and move
the slider to 0 seconds. Make sure crossfade between songs in the same
album is unchecked. (0 second crossfade=gapless playback. That's what I
use it for.)

After i backed up my hard drive, reformatted it and then restored the
backups, grub still kept the old UUID for the partition. I replaced it
with /dev/sda5, but whenever I do update-grub (or whenever a kernel
upgrade does), it sets it back to the old
Sebastien, I can confirm this in gutsy too. (although that probably
doesn't help, seeing as I expect you tested it in gutsy yourself)

Oz123, the first partition of the iPod isnt a filesystem, but the iPod's
firmware. Try the 2nd partition (sda2, sdb2 etc). It will probably be
sdb2 if you have a SATA hard disk.

"exists", it provides a text input box to supply an extra parameter,
which is not nescassary (see part circled in red in attached screenshot)

virutalbox, shutting down my windows xp VM and once when i clicked on a
link in evolution which opened in firefox. Because this bug is so
unpredicatble, it could be hard to get a backtrace without running xorg
