The MD5 encryption in libpam-unix2 is not working, it always falls back
to standar
The bug is still there in Ubuntu 8.04.1. I am using pam_unix2.so as here
we use md5 passwords over NIS, and pam_unix.so fails to update this type
of passwords (no way of using passwd instead of yppasswd, and this one
only does the old des crypt). In /var/log/auth.log the following line
can be found

Confirming bug fur current release (52.7.0) for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (64
bit). Crash at startup for any user authenticated by LDAP.
Also confirming the workaround from comment #94, installing nscd solved

Just tested with a ISO downloaded on Nov 7th, 2018, inside VirtualBox,
booted via PXE: same issue. As far as I remember, in the past I could
successfully use this image to install systems. Is this due to a change
on one of the packages downloaded by the mini installer?

Just installed the packages from security-proposed, the work fine on our
configuration. Same workload triggering the crashes (10 clients doing
apt-get update at the same time through the proxy) works fine as it
always did before.

was on Jaunty.
I'm trying to figure out why you didn't have any warning message but my karmic
installation broke, so I can't do anything until I have some time to fix it...
