Perhaps, unfortunately, I didn't realize there was a more recent version
of Sun Java Runtime available before I used the Add/Remove Applications
tool. My problem is that the installation of Sun Java Runtime 5.0 did
not install correctly. I believe his has now affected the func
BTW I did this with Java6u2 instead of Java6u1.

Ok, maybe a solution. I found a workaround posted at:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=332674
Basically, I installed a newer version which I made as my default & have
left the broken java install as is on my system which seems to have
worked.
