Updating the firmware on the dvd drive seems to have solved the problem
for me. I used the firmware update from the Dell support site (version
TD17) on my Compaq V2000 with a PHILIPS SCB5265. The update took a good

xorg-edgers ppa. I was using this ppa previously when I discovered the
crash. I downgraded everything to the Lucid packages to test and make
the bug report.
I updated the packages again to xorg-edgers to try the back trace and it
I have been downloading the updates regularly. This crash hasn't
occurred since updating.
Is it possible that this would cause a kernel panic? I have been getting
those once in a while now unfortunately no error shows up in the kernel,
syslog or xorg logs so I don't know if it's related.

Experiencing this here. This is egregious and should be fixed

Comment #9 suggests this atrocious bug has been present since Karmic.

Yup, this bug was reported against dapper. I don't have the time to play
anymore games with this. If the ubuntu developers don't care about the
quality of their work than neither do I. Dapper-deleted!
