That is to say, if I prevent processor.ko from loading, all is well but that
means no cpu scaling, etc.
I'm about to test adding processor.ko to the module blacklist (wherever

I suggest using sfdisk to backup your partition as text.
Then try editing a copy of the sfdisk output in a text editor.
You will have to analyse the output of sfdisk to work out what is wrong and

New kernel just installed.
A variation with Linux lazarus 2.6.24-12-generic #1 SMP Sat Mar 8 02:29:24 UTC
2008 i686 GNU/Linux
(On this machine dual core isn't always recognized [it was on this boot], I'll
look for a correlation)
The variation is NOT found in dmesg but is found in /var/log/syslog

Ignore the "loads of modules are missing", I guess not all the modules
packages were available when I got the update, they'll no doubt follow

This occurs in Hardy beta even when using sfdisk.
There needs to be a kernel level lock so that ALL clients know not to
act on the re-read partition table until AFTER the file systems have
been created.
My scripts re-partition the disk and then fail to create the file
systems because the vestages

Maybe the author will also release this version under LGPL?
I've seen lots of people never get round to
I'm using feisty and enabled ntp from the "Administration/Date and Time"
menu.
Since I reset my clock this morning, my /var/log/ntpstats/peerstats has
gone like this:
54213 28122.920 82.211.81.145 9014 0.084361261 0.094846198 7.937503096
0.00954
...
54213 65161.924 82.211.81.145 9014 456.429
Maybe I don't have the same bug;
The time lag seems to occur when booted from a low-latency SMP kernel but when
one of the processors hasn't come up, see bug #97554
I'll try reproducing in i386 kernel, and other smp tests and report more
when I have it.

I would open another bug about the crash except I didn't report a crash, it
looks like you did though.
Help, I'm confused!
