I can also confirm running into this issue every time unattended-
upgrades runs and see this erroring out in the logs. I would also like
to point out that this problem has been resolved upstream in
needrestart. Debian has cherry-picked the patches for Debian Bookworm in
their needtorestart package
for info, after checking with other users, it was established that it works
fine on kubuntu 24.04, ubuntu mate 24.04 and on fedora gnome 40.

Solution 1 sounds preferable. Being considered in test by Nvidia is
fine, because so is Wayland support. It would be a shame if we couldn't
fix the 535 driver though...
The other thing to consider is what framebuffer drivers are available to
squeeze into initrd. You need something there to support
I completely forgot about bug 2063036 because I hadn't seen it in a
while.

shim-signed is tagged because it contains a CSV with the old boot entry,
but it isn't actually used by the newest GRUB (as it is generated now by
grub-install).
Unless we want to branch shim-signed the CSV will stay with the old name
for older releases for now (e.g. possibly the support period of

Thanks, yes I can see that machine has only successfully sent one of the
gnome-shell crash reports. Unfortunately there seems to be a secondary
bug in either gnome-shell's logging or the crash reporter whereby we
can't see the correct section of the system log. Only that gnome-shell
crashed with so

I hit this bug when installing 24.04 by selecting the option in the
installer to install proprietary drivers.
`libnvidia-egl-wayland1` is not installed, which causes apps that try to
