Forgot to get the dmesg even though I did look at the dmesg output
(*facepalm*). There are no messages related to this in dmesg when this

systems is that gcc-12 is installed on those that fail, but not on that
that work. But then installing gcc-12 does not fail such systems - I'm
still not sure what the trigger actually is.

Using snd_dice to playback audio, doing anything else, even just scrolling in
firefox or launching this bug report, causes the firewire driver to quit:

Those "dead" spaces might be used for window dragging so it's possible
your click is actually doing a tiny window drag, which triggers tiling
assistant.
