Turns out this is an issue with the nouveau driver, and trying to use it
to drive an older nvidia GPU (geforce 9400) found in the iMac A1225.
Nvidia's proprietary driver for this card (nvidia-340) is only supported
on Linux Kernel 5.4, so installing Ubuntu 20.04, locking to that kernel
version, and
Hirsute is no longer in support.

This is just plain WRONG. The issue is NOT the kernel, upstream or
otherwise. I am using 5.17.7 compiled directly from kernel source off
of kernel.org, and was using the SAME kernel under 20.04.

New ISP, now my systems keep thinking I'm in Denver (even my

Just to add a voice to this: we see the same things migrating from 18.04
to 22.04 while controlling some embedded ARM/Debian devices running
dropbear. The key are indeed appearing in the wrong place as stated
above and the log in does not proceed as expected. We can work around
this for production

The problem is, if you want a partition to be auto-mounted, you either must
edit the fstab or THE INSTRUCTIONS are to turn off the "default" mounting in
gnome disk utility and it will auto-mount. However, the auto-mounting is done
as system root and I don't have access to it. So I must google
Why would Ubuntu want to remove ZFS support? I use both Ubuntu and
Fedora but would have no reason to continue with Ubuntu without ZFS.
