Public bug reported:
When switching panel/desktop layouts using MATE Tweak is it possible
that some panel services (panel, indicators, dock, Brisk Menu) are not
correctly re-initialised leaving the user with a desktop environment
that is missing vital features.
** Affects: mate-tweak (Ubuntu)
This issue is caused by panel services being killed, rather than
terminated which can produce a dialogue box prompting the user for what
action to take and that blocks `mate-panel --replace` from being able to
correctly re-initialise the panel processes.

I can now see that the dmesg command - starting with Ubuntu 21.10 - is NOT
