Thanks Florian for checking, there are indeed patches for samba 4.14,
4.15, 4.16. No patches for samba 4.13, but maybe that's because upstream
only ships security fixes for it at the moment [1].
A bit confusingly the upstream patches mention that:

This is still the same in jammy. I put a duplicate file in _import and
ran the import function from the web interface. It went well and
informed me about "3 files (3.6 MiB) left behind".

Evolution I get "Connecting to address book failed: Unauthorized".
Pressing button [Reconnect] clears the message but Address book is

Thank you for taking the time to report this crash and helping to make
this software better. This particular crash has already been reported
and is a duplicate of bug #1946165, so is being marked as such.
I installed the podman package through apt. That triggered rebuild of
the initramfs disk. And that surprisingly all fixed the boot problem.
