When I do the restart or the shutdown ubuntu freezes. I used to restart
to get into my other distr (have dualinstallation in my laptop) via grub
selection. Now, it never gets there (to grub) and I am forced to shut
down using the power button.

Some more info to add for the HDMI audio issue:
I tried out the hardware on another monitor and it appears that stereo PCM
audio over HDMI works fine. What appears to be broken is surround sound and
bitstream audio over HDMI. This only occurs in Linux/Ubuntu 22.04. In windows
10 everything works
For the audio issue, I did notice that when set to bitstream over HDMI
and surround, it would randomly work (not very often) before logon to
the desktop but audio would quit after. This was a very low occurrence
however of this mode working.

After further investigation this is caused by a bug in mesa drivers,
I've filed a bug to them here:

and they say it has been fixed in 21.3.x but Ubuntu includes
21.0.3-0ubuntu0.3 which is an old release of mesa drivers.

This seems to be mostly solved in Ubuntu 21.10 (compared to 21.04.
linux-firmware 1.201.3) for me now.
I do regularly (multiple times in a minute) get a hiccup which lasts a fraction
of a second where there's no sound output. Not an issue for videocalls (other
microphone than through the bluetho
headset? umh, well I found that I have no `systemd --user` running
(thank to Maciej Borzecki comment in #1956942), then I run it in a
terminal, and this fixed the problem.
I started session by `startx`, like enen above, I have no idea about gdm
session, but I can guess systemd --user is started th

--user, maybe via dbus, so starting with headset could has triggered the
